The Importance of Baptism
One's membership in the Godhead (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) is symbolized in the rite of water baptism. Doing so is an act of obedience on the part of the believer. Repentance, which means "changing," comes first and is necessary. This transformation occurs when we decide to forsake sin and self-indulgence in favor of serving the Lord. Putting God first requires us to put aside our egos, histories, and material goods. What this entails is entrusting our will and our life to God. What has happened inside a believer's life is mirrored in the outward confession that is their testimony. Baptism is a public declaration of one's faith in Jesus Christ in the presence of witnesses.
